This guide outlines what Paranormal Door is looking for in a publication, and what our expectations are.
Paranormal Door only accepts email submissions; no snail mail submissions will be accepted. Unsolicited authors are welcome; you do not need to have an agent.
Paranormal Door Monthly will be a collection of short stories by various authors. Each short story can be a stand alone story, part of a series, or from the same world and characters - but with a different story each time. Each story has to be between 1,000 to 10,000 words - the average story is around 5,000 words. The payment to the author will be up to $0.50 per issue sold. Deadlines and themes for Paradoor.
eBooks
Paranormal Door is constantly expanding where we sell our eBooks. Currently we have listings here on Paranormal Door (PDF), Kindle (mobi), and Kobo (ePub). For novels the royalty is between 15 and 30% depending on the distribution channel.
Paperbacks
With the convenience of print on demand we are able to publish our novels in paperback. We sell copies here and through our eStore. Royalties on paperbacks are 10%.

How to submit
Send your full manuscript of up to 15,000 words for short stories or for longer stories the first three chapters and the last chapter. Please send this in a word .doc, .docx or .rft file. Please make sure your manuscript is finished before you query.
You will also need to attach your professionally written cover letter. Take care with your cover letter as this is the first thing that your reviewing editor sees. It needs to be professionally written and free of spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes.
We only accept electronic submissions, as we are a digital eBook publisher. No paper manuscripts will be accepted. To this end: all correspondence with you the writer will be via email, this includes acceptance and rejection of your manuscript, all edits, and any other correspondence.
It is important that your manuscript is thoroughly edited by yourself before it is submitted. It would be even better if you had a non biased critique from a writing buddy or a professional editor before submission.
You will receive and initial response within four weeks. Your manuscript is read by a publisher before it is accepted. If your submission is accepted then your book will be published in six to twelve months.

The email cover letter
In the body of the email include a professionally written cover letter stating what your story is about. (No personal information or anything unrelated to the story)
The cover letter will need to include:
· Title
· Author pen name and real name:
· Your email
· Word count of full manuscript
· Blurb (200 words max)
· Previous publication credits

Fiction Categories
There are four fiction categories, separated by word count. You will find a writing description later on in the guidelines.
Paradoor – is our novels, because our readers are opening the door to an escape from reality. 25,000 to 100,000+ words length manuscripts.
Genres: paranormal, romance paranormal romance, suspense romance, suspense paranormal, fantasy, science fiction, chick lit.
Paranormal Door formatting requirements
We are pretty informal with formatting; however there are a couple of requirements.
Your manuscript will not be rejected due to formatting. It however is very important that the manuscript be thoroughly edited, at the very least by a friend who gives constructive feedback. If it apparent that there has been no editing it will be rejected.
New Zealand Association of Manuscript Assessors may be of service to you.
- All manuscripts must be in a .doc or .docx or .rft file.
- Manuscripts can be single spaced with a 12 point font, something like Arial or Verdana is suitable.
- After a full stop there is a single space - not double

Story descriptions
Currently we are publishing paranormal romance and contemporary romance. We are open to fantasy, science fiction, mystery, suspense, and other related fiction genres.
Paranormal Romance
Paranormal Door is looking for paranormal, romance and action with either implied sexual scenes to strong sexual scenes. There needs to be fantasy and danger elements for these eBooks.
We are looking for stories that call to females who be taken out of their real life into a fantasy land. Were-animals, vampires, fairies, physic powers set in contemporary times. The story must keep the reader enthralled for the entire journey.
All stories must be able to stand alone, but series are welcome. For each story all the loose ends need to be tied up, and the relationship between the hero and heroine should resolve itself in a satisfying manner.
Contemporary Romance
Our contemporary romances need to have strong storylines and be based in modern times. You need to show the conflict between the heroine and the hero quite early on in the story. Alongside the storyline, you need to show how the romance is developing. The story needs to grab the reader from the first sentence giving them a break from their real lives. The story can be stand alone or it can be part of a series.
